Short description:
The two-year master degree programme is specifically geared towards dieticians and doctors. It is organised on a part-time basis and leads to the degree of Master of Science in Applied Nutrition Medicine. The university course, which is unique in Austria, is run jointly by the Medical University of Graz and FH JOANNEUM as part of an innovative cooperation model. The programme starts in the summer semester of 2011 and gives both dieticians and doctors the opportunity to enhance their knowledge in applied nutritional medicine, including diabetes mellitus, eating disorders, allergies or heart disease. During the course students develop scientific approaches to solving problems from their own practical experience.
Study focus:
The key areas of study include analysing the practical relevance of latest findings in food intake and resorption | eating disorders | food intolerance and allergies | gastroenterology | genetics | nutritional requirements – excess and risk | endocrinology | nephrology | cardiovascular disease | geriatrics | oncology | surgery | malnutrition | clinical nutrition. The course also provides cross-cutting expertise in research, public health, project and quality management and includes discussions about current topics from practice and research.

University degree in medicine or degree in dietetics and nutrition from a university of applied sciences or equivalent three-year training at a recognised educational institution in Austria or abroad (180 ECTS).
