Awards for students of the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences
Denise Hachinger, graduate of the master degree programme Design & Product Management, received an award at the "Salzburger Landespreis für Marketing, Kommunikation und Design". She reinterpreted a chandelier her way and won the category in design. Also a group of students of the degree programme MultiMediaArt won with their movie-project "Neben meinem Bruder". On the 27th of January the awards were handed out to the winners in a festive manner.

Students' movie goes California
Graduates of the degree programme MultiMediaArt at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences received a Golden Bulb for their "Best First Film" and "Best Screenplay" at the Vegas Independent Film Festival 2011 in the category "No Budget". Soon the movie will be shown in several cinemas in California.

Digital cameras and Smartphones make it easy to take loads of pictures. But how to manage all the taken photos? At the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences four students have developed a photo-app which helps organising personal photo-archives. The App is available here: www.getmatilda.com.

FH Salzburg: Research on Salzburg Festival guests
Recently the "future studies" department of the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences presented the findings of their latest research: Salzburg Festival guests spend much money during their stay in Salzburg, they mostly stay here for 7 nights, sleep in good hotels and spend money on food in restaurants and shops. This creates added value for Salzburg's economy.

Businessplans, created by students of the University of Applied Sciences Salzburg, received another award for their great works. Just in November the students of the degree programme "Business Management" celebrated their "triple-success" at the "Salzburg Business Awards 2011". Now they also won the category-price at the "i2b Businessplan Awards" in Vienna.

Students' Masters project: "My identity is open"
How would it be, living in a world without any privacy? Where everybody knows everything and private data is accessible for anybody? A group of students of the Masters degree programme MultiMediaArt at the University of Applied Sciences Salzburg created a documentary on this issue. The movie called "my identity is open" ("miio") is shown on Thursday 15th at the Mozart Cinema in Salzburg. Start at 7 pm, free entrance!

Physiotherapy students on internship in Cambodia
A major challenge awaits final year students Laurenz Hack and Lisa Sinn who are studying physiotherapy at FH JOANNEUM in Graz - the two students are to spend their mandatory final semester internship working at the Angkor Hospital for Children in Cambodia. The cooperation with this very special internship host was established on the initiative of lecturer Maria Kormann with the support of other colleagues on the Physiotherapy degree programme.

Nomination for State Prize for Engineering Consulting
Wolfgang Stocksreiter from the Electronics & Technology Management degree programme at FH JOANNEUM received a “Nomination for the State Prize for Engineering Consulting” for consulting services provided in the development of a sensor system for veterinary medicine. This prize is awarded by the Austrian Economics Ministry for excellent consulting services in the engineering sector.

Health Management in Tourism graduate receives Science Prize
In October, Andrea Schodl received the Science Prize awarded by the Lower Austrian Chamber of Labour for her bachelor thesis, in which she examined sustainability in corporate health promotion. She graduated from the Health Management in Tourism master degree programme at FH JOANNEUM Bad Gleichenberg in the summer of 2011.

State Prize for e-mobility project
The BALLADE project received the highest e-mobility award conferred by the Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology from Minister Doris Bures. Electronics experts from Kapfenberg have made a major contribution to developing this intelligent charging station for electric vehicles.

New heads for Architecture and Construction degree programmes at FH JOANNEUM
On 1 November Michaela Kofler and Wolfgang Schmied took over as heads of the Architecture and Construction degree programmes at FH JOANNEUM. Michaela Kofler is the new head of the bachelor degree programme in Construction, Design and Economics, as well as the master programme in Construction Management and Engineering. Schmied will lead the master degree programme in Architecture. Both have been lecturers at FH JOANNEUM for many years.

On 15 November, FH JOANNEUM held its fourth Didactics Day, featuring a programme of stimulating presentations and workshops on university teaching and the presentation of Teaching Awards to five excellent lecturers.
