Prerequisites for studying at a university of applied sciences

Bachelor
For students applying to a bachelor degree program, at least one of the following criteria must be fulfilled:
• General qualification for university entrance
• Certificate of eligibility to study in a specific field at the tertiary level
• Vocational diploma
• Successful completion of a 3-year (minimum) vocational school at the secondary level or an education in the dual system (apprenticeship related to the objective degree program); additionally, students must take the qualification examinations in Mathematics, German and English (at the level of secondary-school leaving exams) within the first two semesters of study at the university of applied sciences. Students from the dual system must also provide proof of a minimum of 2 years work experience in a related industry.
• German qualification for entrance to a university of applied sciences in a related field; additionally, students must take the qualification examinations in Mathematics, German and English (at the level of secondary-school leaving exams) within the first two semesters of study at the university of applied sciences.

Master

For students applying to a master degree program, the following qualifications are necessary:
• bachelor diploma from a related field obtained at a university, a university of applied sciences, or an equivalent postsecondary institution
• work experience
• proficiency in English

Language of Instruction
All applicants who do not have German as their mother language must demonstrate that they have a command of the language at least at the B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (for a description of the levels, please see http://europass.cedefop.europa.eu/LanguageSelfAssessmentGrid/en). This regulation does not apply to those prospective students who intend to apply to the master degree program International Business Studies at the FH Kufstein, which is held entirely in English.

University Qualification Exams

The FH Kufstein, through its Michelangelo program, offers special preparatory courses for students who need to take the university qualification exams. Applicants who do not have a secondary-school leaving certificate are eligible for study provided they have successfully completed an apprenticeship in a field related to the objective degree program; once accepted to the university, these students must take the university qualification exams. The Michelangelo Program also offers a range of continuing education courses which may be taken by students as a supplement to the regular academic degree programs.
