  • Bachelor: Bachelor of Science
  • Full-time
  • German, English
  • 6 Semester
  • Innsbruck

The Bachelor degree program in Medical, Health and Sports Engineering is a full-time, face-to-face program that spans over 6 semesters of 15 weeks each. In semesters 1 – 3, students are taught the necessary scientific, engineering, and information technology skills. In the following semesters, the focus is increasingly on the application of the learned methods in medical, health and sports engineering, covering the entire spectrum of development of new technologies from the initial idea to the approved product on the market.

Students will work on exciting projects at the cutting edge of technology and experience impressive possibilities that arise using 3D printing, robotic systems, artificial intelligence, or wearables.

Personality development and the development of social skills have become highly important for a successful start in professional life. Therefore, the study program includes modules in business, entrepreneurship, management, and key competencies.

Starting in the 4th semester, students have the opportunity to focus their studies further on one of the two majors: "Medical Technology" or "Health and Sports Engineering". These specializations allow students to apply the learned methods to concrete examples from the individual field. They include the following topics:

Medical engineering:
- eHealth and telemedicine
- Wearables in medicine
- Medical device analysis and development
- Medical technologies in diagnosis and therapy
- Imaging procedures

Health & Sports Engineering:
- Performance measurement in sport
- Movement analysis
- Athlete development
- Wearables in sport
- Equipment development in elite sport
- Lightweight construction and fiber composites
- Sports medicine
- Rehabilitation in sport

Entry requirements

Generally, admission to the program is available to the following persons:

Individuals with a university entrance qualification for a social, business or legal sciences study program (e.g. school-leaving exam, appropriate university entrance equivalency exam etc.)
Individuals without a university entrance qualification, but with relevant professional qualification, provided that one of the following requirements is fulfilled:
school-leaving certificate from a relevant vocational secondary school
completion of a dual education course with a relevant apprenticeship

Persons without a university entrance qualification but with relevant vocational qualifications must additionally sit entrance exams in German, English (Level I), Mathematics (Level II) and Physics (Level I). The level of the exams corresponds to that of a non-school university entrance qualification in natural sciences.

Persons in their last year at school wishing to apply for a place on the program before taking their final exams must include their most current school report with their application. Successful applicants must subsequently submit their school-leaving examination certificate before the start of the first semester.

Recognition of previous qualifications

Applications for recognition of studies, examinations or scientific activities can be submitted to the head of the study program after admission to the program. Course-related recognition is generally preferred to recognition on a semester-by-semester basis.
