"Network & Communication Engineering" is a German speaking bachelor's program that provides a universal basic education for the requirements of an increasingly digitalized world. The course combines the fields of telecommunications, computer science and networked systems and deals with current technical innovations such as the Internet of Things (IOT), the mobile phone standard 5G or artificial intelligence (AI).
The skills students acquire during their studies are diverse and range from software development, network engineering and database administration to technical project management, network equipment and IT device development. In a constantly growing industry, graduates of Network & Communication Engineering have excellent job prospects with enormous career potential.
However, the course of study also offers an entry into the academic-technical world and serves as a good basis for a further master's degree or for taking up research activities. Students can specialise their knowledge with in-depth electives starting in the third semester, while the professional internship in the sixth semester builds a first bridge to the business world.
What students should bring to their studies:
- A fundamental interest and enjoyment in scientific and technical subjects.
- A creative personality who enjoys innovative developments.
- Logical thinking skills combined with a good command of English.
- Curiosity and the ability to work independently.
Concrete previous knowledge is not necessary for the Bachelor's degree in Information Technology. Therefore, students from all types of schools can start with this course of study after the Matura if they bring the appropriate interest and willingness to perform. In order to facilitate the start of studies, the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences offers intensive courses in mathematics, computer science and physics. Missing university entrance qualifications can be compensated by relevant professional qualifications and attendance of the pre-study course.
German skills are required (minimum level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages CEFR).
