Intensive Care is a complex specialisation in healthcare and nursing, which deals with the demanding health requirements of acutely or critically ill people of all age groups. The intensiv care (male or female) nurse is indispensable in the implementation of evidence-based care and represents a core member of the multi-professional team in the field of Intensiv Care Unit.

How do you become an intensive care nurse?

Anyone wanting to specialise in intensive care after completing a bachelor's degree or diploma in healthcare and nursing can visit the higher education course (job-enabling) in intensive care at the University of Applied Sciences for Health Professions Upper Austria at the Med Campus V. Linz. The two-semester programme finishes with the title “Academic Expert in Intensive Care.” The course focuses on special care in different intensive care areas, special medical basics, and related sciences (e.g., medicine, psychology, sociology). Internships enable an optimal transfer of theory to practice.
