Care in the Operating Area is a complex specialisation in healthcare and nursing, which deals with the demanding health requirements of acutely- or critically-ill people of all ages. The OP nurse (male or female) is indispensable in the implementation of evidence-based care and constitutes a core member in the OP field.
How do you become an operating room nurse?
Anyone wanting to specialise in perioperative nursing after completing a bachelor's degree or diploma in healthcare and nursing care can complete the higher education course (job-enabling) in perioperative nursing care at the University of Applied Sciences for Health Professions Upper Austria at the Med Campus V. Linz. The two-semester programme finishes with the title “Academic Expert in Perioperative Nursing.” The course focuses on perioperative nursing in the operating room, related sciences (e.g., medicine, psychology, sociology), and personal and social competencies. Internships enable an optimal transfer of theory to practice.
